IIMs will begin the shortlisting process for MBA/ PGDM admissions in the 2026-28 batch based on the CAT 2025 cut-offs to select candidates for the Written Aptitude Test (WAT) and Personal Interview (PI) round. This process will start in the first week of January 2026.
Candidates can also check their qualifying status after the declaration of CAT results 2025 on their smartphones. Once the CAT results are out, they need to follow some points detailed in the table below to check the CAT results 2025.
The calculation of the CAT percentile includes three steps:
As per the CAT exam pattern over the years, three marks are awarded for each correct answer and one mark is deducted for every incorrect answer. No marks are deducted for wrong answers in non-MCQ-type questions.
Use Careers360's CAT percentile predictor tool to calculate your percentile.
As the CAT for the MBA exam is conducted in different slots, a normalisation process is used wherein the marks of every candidate are scaled to bring equity to the marking process. The normalisation process of CAT is an established practice followed over the years to assess the performance of a candidate across multiple sessions.
What are the parameters taken into consideration for CAT normalisation?
CAT 2025 results will be prepared based on the normalised score and CAT percentile will be calculated only after raw CAT scores are scaled and normalised.
After the CAT results 2025 are declared, qualified candidates will have common doubts about what comes after the CAT results. Candidates who meet the minimum CAT cutoff score will be intimated by the respective IIMs for further selection rounds. Each IIM sends interview letters to the shortlisted candidates directly via email or registered/speed post. The criteria for shortlisting vary across IIMs.
Normally, the IIMs follow a selection procedure that includes the following rounds: Written Ability Test (WAT), Group Discussion (GD), and Personal Interview (PI) rounds. The new IIMs have a common selection procedure, called the Common Admission Process (CAP), for which separate registration is done once the minimum CAP cutoff percentile is released by the CAP conducting authority.
The final selection of candidates for MBA admissions will be based on various parameters, including the CAT score, academic history, work experience, academic diversity, gender diversity, and performance in WAT/GD-PI.
The Indian Institute of Management (IIM) admission process consists of three stages. Check out the brief description of the IIM CAT results and admission process.
The top IIMs conduct the admission process individually, whereas the other 11 new/ baby IIMs conduct the Common Admission Process (CAP) jointly.

Other top B-schools also shortlist candidates for the WAT-PI round based on the CAT cutoff. Institutes determine the CAT cutoff individually. For admission to non-IIMs, candidates will be required to fill out the institute's application form.
The application window for top B-schools will be open after the CAT results are declared.
